SEVENTY -FIVE YEARS AGO TODAY…

While the horrific battle for Iwo Jima was still raging, the first large scale firebombing attack also took place 75 years ago today under orders from General Curtis LeMay.  The target was Tokyo.

While my aunt featured in my story below passed away late last year, you can read about her memories of that night as well as that of the son (and friend) of a B-29 captain who actually flew firebombing missions over Japan.

PFC Louis Wiesehan, Jr., killed in action at Tarawa while serving with F/2/8th Marines, has been accounted for according to a DPAA press release.
